Building Crop Literacy – InPraxis Learning

We conducted a series of focus groups across Alberta in the spring and fall of 2019 for Alberta Canola, Alberta Pulse Growers and Alberta Wheat and Barley. These focus groups involved junior high level teachers and students, and were designed to identify evidence of current knowledge and understandings about the impact of crop-based agricultural production and insights into what is most valuable and relevant for student learning in consideration of current curriculum.

Whole and small group discussion, targeted individual questions and a survey were used to solicit teacher and student perspectives and opinions of gaps in, and potential for, current agriculture education programming.
Focus group questions and discussion points were centred on the identification of topics relevant to crop production as well as program delivery, including format and approaches.
